Hi Alyson, If he's a bit like me he may be picky about choosing equipment. Perhaps you can start by getting him the book 'Podcasting Hacks' that just came out. If you get it soon enough before his Birthday then you can read the chapters about equipment and perhaps buy a microphone and microphone input device. (That is what you need to start out, plus some free software.)

My boyfriend is very into podcasts and wants to play around with starting his own. His birthday is coming up and I would love to buy him all the materials needed to begin. What do I need to buy?
